- Familiarize yourself with your cycle. Knowing what days you are most fertile will greatly increase your odds of getting pregnant. As a good rule of thumb, you will be fertile five days before ovulation and one day after. So, if you want to hurry up and conceive, make sure you have sex during those days. You can use natural methods to keep up with ovulation, an ovulation kit, or a combination of both.
- Don’t go to the bathroom immediately after intercourse. In fact, while it isn’t necessary to stick your feet in the air, it is most conducive for fertilization if you remain lying down for at least 15 minutes.
- Chill out and try not to stress and fret about getting pregnant as this is counterproductive, since stress can actually hinder your chances of conceiving.
- If you smoke---stop. Disregarding all of the other adverse effects it can have on your general health; studies have shown that smoking can decrease fertility by affecting your hormones and estrogen level.
- Get a moderate amount of exercise. You don’t want to overdo the exercise as this can actually work against you if you’re trying to conceive. Why? Because excessive exercise shortens the second half of your monthly cycle, making it difficult to know when you will ovulate. But, do get enough to be healthy as being healthy, in and of itself, will help increase your chances of getting pregnant.
- Take your vitamins. Taking a prenatal vitamin while you’re actively trying to conceive can increase your chances of getting pregnant, as it improves your health. As an added bonus, those prenatal vitamins or a folic acid supplement taken daily before getting pregnant can greatly lessen the risk of neural tube birth defects or spina bifida.
